As Long As We Live

on BBC Two England

The Japanese Italia Prize entry of 1965.
This remarkable film tells the story of two miners who were involved in one of the most unusual mine catastrophes in history.
In this disaster, the most serious in Japan since the war, 1,150 miners were killed or injured by carbon-monoxide poisoning. The gas caused serious brain damage among many of the survivors. This film traces the progress of two of them back to normal life.
