Using their own video cameras, ten Los Angelinos tell the stories of their lives in the year following the worst riot in the history of the United States.
A Korean whose business was burnt down during the unrest then loses his brother in a brutal murder. A Crips gangleader is invited to the Presidential inauguration. Two policemen battle drugs, graffiti and gangs on the seedy streets of Hollywood. A 12-year-old from South Central plays truant. A young black film-maker tries to break into film production. These are just some of the stories which mark the first anniversary of the riots. The programme interweaves these separate lives and attempts to chart the life of a city through the eyes of its citizens. Coming from the city now called the capital of the Third World, it foreshadows a disturbing future for multi-racial cities across the world.
