The Musk Connection

on BBC Two England

A fabled substance first brought back by Marco Polo , musk looks like used coffee grounds and smells like old stables but is three times more valuable than gold. It comes from a shy and solitary deer found in the Himalayas whose musk sac is its death warrant. Despite international agreements to protect this 'endangered' species, a shady and often criminal trade continues to flourish.
