Introduced by Peter Scott.
The Galapagos Islands are remarkable because they contain many primitive animals which, owing to the lack of competing species, have evolved differently from those on the South American continent. After studying them Charles Darwin wrote his famous book 'The Origin of Species', and it is proposed that a biological research station shall be founded as a memorial to him on the islands. Julian Huxley, the chairman of the project, appears in the programme in a filmed interview with Peter Scott.
