Can the Cuts Heal?
All over London hospitals are shutting wards and cancelling operations; some hospitals face complete closure, others have had to close their doors for weeks at a time to all but emergency admissions. Behind the cuts is the government strategy of shifting money away from the capital to other hard-stretched areas. All over the south east, health authorities like Medway are millions under budget, with long waiting lists and very old hospitals. But can they get their money without causing a total collapse of London's health service?
