The Anatomy Lesson

on BBC Two England

A ballet by Glen Tetley
from the repertoire of Nederlands Dans Theater
In 1964 a small but lively Dutch ballet company backed an unknown American choreographer-they commissioned a ballet from Glen Tetley. The result-The Anatomy Lesson. Now, Tetley is one of the major figures of the dance scene in The Hague, New York, and London, and the Nederlands Dans Theater has joined the ranks of the world's major ballet companies.
Before this special performance of The Anatomy Lesson Glen Tetley tells how he came to do a ballet in which the central character is a corpse-the same corpse that lies stripped and dissected in Rembrandt's famous painting.
