... of documentary. A series of films portraying issues, institutions and individuals. Love in Exile
When King Edward vm abdicated in 1936 to marry the woman he loved - twice divorced Wallis Simpson -he lost more than his throne. He lost his country and his family. For the Palace could not accept Mrs Simpson , and the couple were compelled to spend the rest of their lives in self-imposed exile as the Duke and Duchess of Windsor. This documentary film, written and narrated by Michael Dean , is an account of the sad, lonely years when the man born to be king needed constant entertainment as a distraction from the humiliation of his reduced estate. The most famous love story of the century ended in unhappy anticlimax. Film editor PETER HARRIS
