Luigi Alva
The famous tenor, originally from Peru, who is now one of the stars of La Scala, Milan, sings a tribute to Francesco Paolo Tosti in a programme of songs reminiscent of another age. Tosti, the romantic Italian composer who became music teacher to the English royal family, died fifty years ago on December 2.
Z Cars and After
The Austrian-born flautist Fritz Spiegl and his wife, Bridget Fry, are best known as the composers arrangers of the Z Cars and Softly, Softly theme tunes. On this occasion outside broadcast cameras, together with Arthur Jacobs, invade the Spiegl home - a bizarre house stacked with strange musical instruments, which is now also the headquarters of a number of other unusual Liverpudlian activities.
Introduced by Bernard Keeffe who also conducts the studio orchestra.
