Gilgamesh, King of Uruk. rules for seven years before he has to marry the Goddess Inanna and go to his death. The young man goes on a search for the Flower of Immortality and takes with him on his journey his twin self, Enkidu.
This, one of the oldest myths known, pre-dates the stories of The Iliad by 1,500 years.
The place is Sumeria.
