The World's Greatest Golf Championship

on BBC Two England

The Story of the British Open
In 1860 eight golfers competed in the first championship on a primitive 12-hole course in Scotland. Today 150 of the world's great golfers compete for the honour of being the Open Champion.
Andrew Cruickshank is the reporter on a costumed reconstruction of the first championship. Peter AHiss traces the story of the development of the Open with the help of rare archival film and recalls some of the great dramas of latter-day Opens.
