The Cannes Film Festival with Barry Norman
This exclusive resort in the south of France hosts the world's premiere film festival where artistry combines with commercialism and glamour. As the world's press descends on this small town, Barry Norman files his report on the films, the stars, the directors and the hype that make up this occasion.
This year in the competition, British interest is represented by three films - A World Apart, directed by Oscar winning cinematographer,
Chris Menges and starring Barbara Hershey ; Pascali's Island, directed by James Dearden , writer of Fatal Attraction, and starring Ben Kingsley and Charles Dance ; and Peter Greenaway 's Drowning By Numbers. Other films on show include Bird, directed by Clint Eastwood ; Miles
From Home, starring Richard Gere ; The Milagro Beanfield War, directed by Robert Redford ; and The Raggedy Rawney, directed by and starring Bob Hoskins.
