Two animals, born to be enemies, Merlin a fox-hound puppy and Tag a fox cub. are brought up together and become friends. When they are separated and Tag returns to the woods Merlin shows no enthusiasm for hunting foxes. While out hunting one day, Asher Smith, the huntsman who originally saved the fox cub's life, finds that their quarry is Tag himself.
