A series of programmes made for audiences in the BBC regions and now seen for the first time throughout the United Kingdom. Tonight from BBC South West Men of Steam
Men of steam have been famous in the West Country ever since that legendary Christmas Eve in 1801 when Richard Trevithick drove the world's first steam road engine up Camborne Hill in Mid-Cornwall. Now steam is billowing again everywhere. It's brought fresh life to lines saved from the Beeching axe; has been spotted on a secret full-sized railway that goes round a Cornish farmyard; and is in full swing with steam organs, steam generators and steam saws.
