The Mecca of Motorcycling

on BBC Two England

The TT 80 Years On
It's a paradox that the world's most dangerous race track should also be the one to have survived the longest. The Isle of Man has been on the international motorcycle racing calendar since 1907, and has claimed 141 lives, but support for it is as fanatical now as at any time in its history. The Isle of Man government plays some part in this by making sure its number one tourist attraction doesn't run into any financial barriers. But, strangely in this modern age, money alone is not the lure here. In no other motor sport arena is the pursuit of the perfect performance so elusive as on the 37 and three-quarter-mile Isle of Man mountain course.... and for the specialist road-racer, that is an attraction that exceeds all others.
