The second of three films starring James Dean
Tonight with Julie Harris, Raymond Massey
This 20th-century version of the Cain and Abel theme set in the Californian farmlands made James Dean a Hollywood star overnight. He plays Cal, a wild adolescent who discovers that his mother is not dead but is in fact running a brothel in a nearby town. The discovery proves traumatic for Cal and begins the break-up of his strained relationship with his austere father and elder brother, Aron.
