Each week a different theme. Each night a different painting. Continuing this week's theme: The Language of Colour Gauguin (1848-1903) The Day of the God at the Art Institute, Chicago
This picture was painted in Paris between two prolonged stays in Tahiti. He crossed half the world only to discover that he was painting from the subconscious, his dreams, day-dreams - the inner eye - what he called ' that mysterious midriff of the mind '.
