The Transformers

on BBC Two England

The first of three films on the art of inspired teaching.
The Butterflies of Zagorsk. Natasha lives in Moscow. Deaf and blind since she was a child, she is now a philosopher, a poet and a practising psychologist, as well as a wife and mother. She is a product of the Zagorsk Home for deaf-blind children where a system of teaching has achieved results that are without parallel in the west.
The programme follows Natasha on a journey back to Zagorsk, where she has become a role model for
13-year-old Oksana, who has recently lost both vision and hearing. And 6-year-old Mansur, who lashed out at everyone who came near when he first arrived, has been calmed by the loving hands of his teachers.
