Briton in the ladies' draw, but her dreams of reaching the third round were quashed by the number 14 seed Nathalie Dechy of France. Eventual finalists Lindsay Davenport and Venus Williams had no such trouble with their respective second-round opponents, Jamea Jackson of the USA and Australia's Nicole Pratt.
