3: On the Edge of Life
Peter Gibbs took off in a light aircraft from a field on the east coast of the island of Mull. He was going to make one circuit of the runway and return within minutes. He never did. Four months later his body was found on a hillside only about a mile away. He had died of exposure. His plane has never been found.
Tonight Ludovic Kennedy investigates the enigma left behind by the former fighter pilot with a reputation for dicing on the edge of life.
