What happens when an African majority finds itself responsible for white symphony orchestras, ballet companies and European influence theatre groups?
Tonight's Omnibus, presented by South African born novelist Justin Cartwright, has been filmed over the three years since Nelson Mandela's inauguration in 1994. From the struggle of a classical violinist in Soweto through to Venda python dance and Afrikaans accordionists, black opera singers and a surprising flop at the Market Theatre in Johannesburg, Cartwright charts the colossal changes since the end of apartheid and finds some surprising answers to questions about the political changes in South Africa.
