Ann and her 19-year-old daughter Joanna live in their small hotel on the English coast, each desperately seeking an escape from the monotony of everyday life. One winter's day Joe, an American from Ann's past, arrives at the deserted hotel. Gradually the three are drawn into an intense relationship which explodes into a shocking conclusion.
