A series of films about the way we live now. A House of Hope
Christmas is a time of home-coming, of family reunion.
But many have no family, no home. The wind-blasted doorway is their refuge, a bottle of cheap booze their only warmth. Where do they turn? Pilsdon, a small community in an Elizabethan manor in rural Dorset, is the refuge many head for, now and throughout the year. Bob had two heart attacks wandering on the streets; Peter, a criminal, suffered appalling violence; Seamus drank meths; Henry was given five years to live. They all made it as far as Pilsdon. Here they find sanctuary for a while. But what hope is there for them in the future? Stills by CHRIS SCHWARTZ Photography IAN KENNEDY Film editor JIM DUFFY
