Out of Court

on BBC Two England

with David Jessel and Sue Cook
Many of us live off credit, yet credit too often and too easily turns into debt. Last year over two million people in debt came before the hard-pressed county courts. In some areas cases have to be disposed of at the rate of one a minute. To pay off existing debts people are turning in despair to loan sharks, who can push them further and further into trouble - and often in the end into prison.
