As Wall Street stocks continue to soar, so does the popularity of the jazz scene with the likes of Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong dominating the field. The third of this week's programmes, however, reveals how other great artists emerge to follow their lead, including Bessie Smith, Bix Beiderbecke - the first white jazz star - and Benny Goodman.
