De Gaulle - The Free Frenchman

on BBC Two England

The second of two outstanding documentaries from France.

For nearly 30 years General Charles de Gaulle, whether in or out of office, was never far from the scene of French politics. In tonight's film, which marks the second anniversary of the General's death, Gaullist and broadcaster Michel Droit paints a committed portrait in words and pictures of the statesman who personified his country and yet remained an enigma to its compatriots.
