Golf: Women's Open

on BBC Two England

Hazel Irvine introduces the first day of action from the 72-hole Women's British Open from Royal Birkdale, Lancashire, which this year earns its winner £120,000.
Sherri Steinhauer of the USA will be defending the title she won last year, when her final score of 283 was just sufficient to fend off the challenge of Sweden's Annika Sorenstam.

In the first round last year at Woburn, Joanne Morley led the British challenge on three under, two off the lead, which was jointly held by Japan's Aki Takamura and little-known Dane Iben Tinning.
