The Natural History of a Sunbeam: 1: First Light

on BBC Two England

The Royal Institution Annual Christmas Lectures to Young People
The first of six lectures
The whole universe is supposed to have been set in motion by the simple command: 'Let there be light.' The nature of light - visible yet intangible - is a puzzle to enquiring young minds. What's it made of? In this first lecture of the series Sir George Porter explains something of the nature of light, and confirms that solar energy is indeed the prime mover of our world.
