The Art Marathon

on BBC Two England

Last of a week-long series of programmes with Miranda Sawyer following six people from Londonderry, as they go on a tour of the United
Kingdom in search of contemporary art foran exhibition.
The selectors are back home sorting out the practical problems of mounting their show. The Orchard Gallery is the main venue, but they also initiate a range of community projects involving 20 artists they met on their trip.
There are rows over Frank Auerbach and Callum Innes abstracts, but visitors have two clearfavourites:
Patrick Hughes 's perspective paintings and Michael Burke 's recreated living room. Art Review editor David Lee thinks the show a success: "I love the idea that these people are building bridges between an ostracised public and an art establishment entrenched and neglectful of its real audience." Producer Patricia Wheatley ; Executive producer
Keith Alexander Stereo
