The Opren Scandal
.... a devastatingly powerful indictment ... (LONDON STANDARD) When the drug Opren was launched in Britain it was described to the public as a breakthrough in the treatment of arthritis. But a year ago it was withdrawn when it became clear that death could be one of its side-effects. Tom Mangold 's investigation shows how Opren's manufacturers made claims that weren't justified by their research; how evidence of the drug's adverse side-effects was withheld; and how further crucial evidence was not acted upon until it was too late.
