In the first of this afternoon's adventure films, Harvey Cheyne, spoiled young son of a millionaire, is dismayed to find himself stranded on a small fishing boat.
But during three months at sea he discovers joy in his work as a cabin boy and, for the first time in his life, real friendship.
Spencer Tracy received an Academy Award for his fine performance as the Portuguese fisherman Manuel, in this vivid adaptation of Rudyard Kipling's novel.
