The Family of Man: Birth

on BBC Two England

Never eat cold sweet potatoes when you are pregnant, keep your husband away from the baby, give thanks to your ancestors and be careful when you see a spider. These are just some of the precepts and superstitions that pregnant women talk about in The Family of Man.

This is the first programme to be repeated in a series of seven films about family life in five very different places: in Colne, Lancashire; Esher, Surrey; Buk in the Highlands of New Guinea; Andheri in the hills of India; and the fishing village of Taipo in the New Territories of Hong Kong.

"One of the most fascinating ideas to reach TV in a long time" (Daily Express)
