Oscar Wilde: The Fan

on BBC Two England

starring Jeanne Crain, Madeleine Carroll, George Sanders, Richard Greene

The last of four films based on the works of Oscar Wilde - playwright, wit and raconteur.
This Hollywood film version of Wilde's play "Lady Windermere's Fan" opens in post-World War II London where the elderly Mrs Erlynne interrupts an auction sale to claim ownership of an exquisite fan, and then recalls the history of the fan from the day, at the turn of the century, when Lord Windermere bought it as a present for his wife.
Otto Preminger cast mainly British-born actors for this highly individual adaptation.
