This summer a small team of archaeologists set about the excavation of Zeugma, a beautifully preserved city which had been buried under eastern Turkey for almost 1,000 years. With a hydroelectric dam soon to be built on the Euphrates, they faced a mammoth struggle against time to save some of the Roman Empire's most stunning treasures.
