Founded in 1952 by the late Miss Gladys Yule and Mrs Glenda Spooner, the Ponies of Britain organisation is now world famous. Glenda Spooner gave information which resulted in the introduction of the Parliamentary bill creating minimum values for the sale of ponies abroad in an effort to stop the export of British ponies for slaughter.
The Ponies of Britain Stallion Show, on which this film concentrates, is held annually at Ascot. There are nine native breeds of ponies which have inhabited these islands since Celtic times. They form the basis of all British riding ponies, for crossing them with various proportions of thorough-bred or Arab bloods they produce the best riding ponies in the world. The annual Ponies of Britain shows provide us with the cream of the champions.
