Blessing
In 1665 when the Great Plague was spreading from London to the countryside, it reached the little village of Eyam in Derbyshire. The inhabitants agreed to stay in their village lest they should carry the infection to other districts. This story illustrates Christ's commandment: Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself' (St. Matthew 22. v. 39).
