Bangladesh 25: How the East Was Won

on BBC Two England

The first of two documentaries marking the 25th anniversary of Bangladesh becoming independent.

In December 1971, after a nine-month civil war, East Pakistan separated from West and became the new nation of Bangladesh. This programme, narrated by Lisa Aziz, looks at how independence was achieved, and explores the nature of modern Bangladesh. Among those interviewed are Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and British journalist Simon Dring.
The second part is next Thursday.
