A Pursuit Race between
Toni Merkens (Germany) and Harry Hill (England)
A commentary by Stewart MacPherson from Heme Hill Cycling Track
The star event at Herne Hill this afternoon is the Omnium Match between Toni Merkens , who has proved so popular when riding over here in recent years (he is to ride for the first time as a professional at Herne Hill), and Harry Hill , who turned professional last year. They are to ride three races against each other, and the broadcast chosen is the match over 5 kilos (approx. 3 miles) between them.
There will be a second commentary on the Invitation Sprint Match, which is to be contested by five of our leading English short-distance riders over 5 laps (3 1/2 laps to the mile).
The meeting is the first of five to be staged this year by the newly formed London Cycle Racing Combine.
