City of Strangers

on BBC Two England

Series looking at the influence of European talent on the American cinema during the first half of this century.
Driven into Paradise. In the 30s, the German-speaking world was virtually drained of its cultural elite, as a large number of writers, musicians, actors and directors crossed the Atlantic.
