A programme based on the Report of the Select Committee on Public Institutions, March. 1860. The object of the Committee's inquiry was to find whether Parliament could provide more facilities for promoting ' the healthful recreation and improvement of the people,' and, if so, would the people benefit from them. Many famous men, among them, Professor T. H. Huxley and John Ruskin , gave evidence; some of the points raised are now historical curiosities, others are still topics of conversation.
Those taking part include:
Thomas Bowman , Edgar Norfolk , Keith Buckley , Frank Partington , Peter Claughton. Jonathan Scott , Bill Horsley , Jack Shaw , Philip Leaver , Norman Shelley , Denis McCarthy , Tony Van den Bergh with Roger Snowdon as narrator Produced by DOROTHY BAKER.
