Master Photographers

on BBC Two England

Jacques-Henri Lartigue
This is the fourth in a series of six conversations with some of the grand old master photographers of this century.
The film shows 90-year-old Jacques-Henri Lartigue taking pictures for French Vogue .and yet he started to photograph over 80 years ago. Richard Avedon called Lartigue ' the most deceptively simple and penetrating photographer in the history of art '.
Talking to Peter Adam , Lartigue guides us through his photograph albums which are now kept in a French museum. They are a diary of a century -a record of a time now gone for ever, but preserved through the perception of a man whose sole aim was to capture the most enchanting moments of his life - the world of elegant fashion of the Belle Epoque, the excitement of the first cars and aeroplanes and the many artists of the 20s and 30s who were his friends.
