starring Laurence Harvey, Susan Shentall
with Flora Robson, Mervyn Johns, Bill Travers
This ambitious British production, awarded the Grand Prix at the 1954 Venice Film Festival, was mainly shot on authentic Italian locations. Shakespeare's play was freely adapted-causing adverse comment then, though now such changes are more fashionable. Flora Robson gives a memorable performance as the Nurse.
A delight to the eye, the film provides a fascinating comparison with the more recent film version, not to mention West Side Story.
Adapted for the screen and directed by Renato Castellani
