A film in celebration of suburbia with Sir John Betjeman
'Live in Metro-land' was the slogan in the 1920s and 1930s. It meant buying a new detached or semi-detached house in the desirable residential suburbs built up alongside the Metropolitan Railway. The Met, the first steam Underground in the world, had bought up the farmland as it tn journeyed out from London's Baker Street to farthest Bucks.
In this film Sir John Betjeman journeys through Metro-land, in search of the poetry and variety of its architecture and activities.
