Screen Two: Henri

on BBC Two England

Two Ulster schoolchildren star in this charming comedy about a 10-year-old country girl who comes to the big city (Belfast) for a music festival. Henrietta sets out to take the musical establishment by storm by playing her unusual choice of instrument, the accordion.
Twelve-year-old Kara Bowman , who plays Henri, is herself an accordion champion. "We put advertisements in the local papers and received thousands of replies," says director Simon Shore. "We chose a brilliant accordionist with no acting experience, but she turned out to be a natural."
Henri's trip is a revelation for the Protestant used to a quiet existence, when she lodges with the Catholic Dougan family.
