Challenging him for the title is 1999 runner-up Barry Cowan, who represented Great Britain at the Olympics. Hannah Collin, who last year became the youngest winner in 11 years, is also back hoping to retain her title. Commentary by Sue Barker, John Barrett and Jo Durie.

The indoor bowls Open championship from Sheffield's Ponds Forge international sports centre begins today, introduced by Dougie Donnelly. Current world number one David Gourlay Jr commences his campaign, while former world champion John Price takes on Scott Kennedy, and Robert Weale meets Rowan Brassey.
