First of a series of madrigal programmes. This is the first of a series of programmes of madrigals, motets, canzonets, and balletts by English, French, and Italian composers.
Richard Dering, the composer represented tonight, was born in England towards the end of the sixteenth century but spent much of his life abroad. He studied in Italy, and after working in London for a time became organist to the convent of English nuns in Brussels. In 1625, five years before his death, he returned to London as one of the musicians of Charles I. (H.R.)
