LORD DEVLIN

on Network Three

on The Examining Justices
In the Magistrates' Courts of England and Wales, the examining justices' most publicised function is to establish whether an accused person should stand trial. Criticism of publicity at these preliminary hearings does not, in Lord Devlin's view, go far enough. There is a strong case for a reform of the system itself.
