Romania: Exodus of the Orphans

on BBC Two England

A year on from Romania's
'Christmas Revolution', the country is still in turmoil. With its economy in ruins, there appears to be little the world wants from Romania, except its children. Thousands of the orphans who stirred such pity when their plight was revealed have been adopted by families in the west. This programme follows a Scottish couple who decided to avoid the lengthy and expensive struggle with bureaucracy and bring two children back from Romania illegally, claiming that they would not survive this winter in an orphanage. Would the plan work? Andy Webb reports. Producer Val Atkinson
