A Race Apart
Do white people sufferracial discrimination? Some pressure groups insist they do - if they're Irish. For these are the only immigrants whose life expectancy falls when they come to Britain. Many are in poor health, bad housingand low-paid jobs. The
Commission for Racial Equality is now recommending that the Irish are monitored as a separate ethnic minority. Patrick Younge investigates and asks what could be the consequences for race relations if the Irish prove their case. A phone-in discussion of the issues raised follows immediately on BBC Radios Berkshire, Kent, Oxford and GLR. If you would like to take part, call [number removed]after the programme.
