A journey with David Attenborough
A thousand square miles of unexplored country in the centre or New Guinea; from the air it looked little different from the rest of the jungle-covered mountains that fill most of the island s interior. But then photographs for an aerial survey unexpectedly showed a few tiny clearings. It could be that, hidden in the forest, there lived people still uncontacted by the outside world. So a patrol officer, with 100 carriers, set out to walk straight across the blank patch, to plot its rivers, measure its mountains and see just what did live in its forests.
