Michael Corleone is now the head of the 'family', having inherited the entire Mafia empire from his father Don Vito. He attempts to deal with many personal and other problems, but his main preoccupation is the legitimisation of the Corleone 'business' in keeping with the more modern gangster image. With this film Francis Ford Coppola won Oscars for Best Picture and for Best Director.
